How do you anticipate and track winter snowstorms?

We use advanced weather tracking systems to stay ahead of storms and plan our services accordingly. We constantly monitor the weather to anticipate snow accumulations. We keep you informed about our service schedule and progress during severe weather. When a snow event nears completion, our trucks begin to roll. We'll have your driveway and walkways cleared out as soon as possible. Our pre-schedule client get priority.

Would you be able to plow my driveway or parking lot right now?

We wish we had enough trucks and drivers to take care of every customer right away, but our resources are limited, so we adhere to a carefully choreographed schedule. If we deviate each time a special request is made, the process becomes compromised, and it takes far longer to get our clients' driveways, parking lots, and sidewalks cleared.

Can you tell me what time my driveway or parking lot will be plowed?

Under ideal circumstances we can predict when we'll plow driveways and parking lots. As weather conditions change, however, we won't be able to estimate when your driveway or lot will be cleared. We alter our snow-fighting schedule to combat drifting snow, ice, and other unique problems.

Salt corrodes my car, sidewalks, and driveway. Can you use cinders instead?

We don't use cinders because they don't work in all situations. Cinders will bounce off or be kicked out by traffic when applied on a hard surface like ice-covered and snow-packed roads. We plan to continue using GeoSalt mix until a more cost-efficient and practical material is developed.

Why do you sometimes use salt, but not always?

The decision whether to salt depends upon expected weather conditions. Salt will not be effective if the temperature is below 20º and is not likely to rise. Salt is most effective if the sun is shining and the temperature is 20º or higher, and is expected to remain steady or increase.

I saw a snowplow parked in a restaurant parking lot. Why was it there instead of working?

Blackhawk Services takes pride in clearing the driveways and parking lots as quickly as possible. Driving a snow plow is demanding, tiring work. Common sense and good safety practices dictate that each driver should take a break every so often. It is dangerous—both for the driver and the public—if a fatigued driver is behind the wheel of a snow plow.
